Causes of Endometrial Cancer

The cases of Endometrial Cancer have been rapidly growing in recent years. Endometrial Cancer is rapidly overtaking Cervical cancer, which used to be one of the most common cancers in women.

In this blog, we will try to identify the reasons behind it and the causes of Endometrial Cancer.

Numerous causes can lead to Endometrial Cancer. Let’s take a look at them step by step.

  • Hormonal Factors: This is the most common cause of Endometrial Cancer. Estrogen (a female hormone) plays a significant role in endometrial cancer. Higher the proportion of Oestrogen, the higher the chances of endometrial cancer.

The same hormone is also responsible for the spread of Breast and Ovarian cancers. So if you have been diagnosed with higher levels of Oestrogen hormone, it’s important to keep an eye out for the symptoms of Endometrial Cancer.

Moreover, women dealing with infertility, frequent abortions, or those who had their first child after age 30, and women whose Menses started before 13 years or continuing after age 55 are more exposed to a higher level of Oestrogen. There are some ovarian tumors, too, that create more Oestrogen.

  • Estrogen Control Pills: Women who take Oestrogen pills postmenopausal are also at a higher risk of Endometrial Cancer.
  • Genetics: Genetics also play a key role in Endometrial Cancer. Women with a family history of Endometrial are at higher risk than the general population.
  • Lynch Syndrome: Women having Lynch syndrome are also at a higher risk of Endometrial Cancer, along with Breast Cancer. So patients who have a history of Breast Cancer or Ovarian Cancer are at higher risk of Endometrial Cancer.
  • Obesity: Obesity plays a vital role in higher Oestrogen levels. Individuals with higher body weight often have higher Oestrogen levels which can lead to Endometrial Cancer.

And if the patient is obese along with diabetes, the risk of endometrial cancer increases exponentially.

  • High-Fat diet: If you are consuming a high-fat diet, there is a strong chance that your Oestrogen level will be high. This, in turn, will put you at higher risk of Endometrial Cancer.
