Diagnosis of Breast Cancer
One should consult a doctor/cancer specialist/ to know more about symptoms and further diagnostic tests.
If found suspicious, such patients are subjected to a Mammography test, and a breast x-ray. If any tumor or cancer is seen on mammography reports, patients are sent for a biopsy for further investigation.
If cancer is confirmed on biopsy, patients are advised to do a CT scan of the abdomen chest, and a bone scan or a PET scan to check and confirm if breast cancer has spread to other organs in the body.
What are the Breast Cancer Treatment options?
Treatment of breast cancer includes cancer surgery, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, and radiation therapy.
For stage 1 cancer, surgery is the first treatment offered to breast cancer patients. A large category of patients is found in stage 2 or 3 in which primary treatment remains Chemotherapy followed by Surgery of cancer and then Radiation therapy.
A large category of breast cancers is called hormone dependant cancer or ER/PR +ve cancers as they call it popularly, only hormonal therapy or hormone therapy after surgery or chemotherapy is recommended.
Most of the time, such hormone-positive breast cancer patients can be managed without chemotherapy.Breast Cancer Surgery included complete removal of the breast and armpit lymph nodes earlier.
Today, a majority of breast cancer patients opt for breast conservation surgery, preserving the breast while removing cancerous cells. This approach yields equally effective cure rates, especially when complemented by post-surgery radiotherapy. Dr. Nilesh Chordia, recognized as the best doctor for breast cancer in Mumbai, specializes in these advanced treatments for optimal patient outcomes.
Is Breast Cancer Treatable?

Breast cancer is treatable to a large extent with the advances in medical sciences. If found in the early stages, breast cancer can be completely cured as well.
Important is to diagnose/identify it as early as possible so that the chances of cure and higher. Usually, breast self-examination is the best method available for women to identify if there are any suspicious symptoms of breast cancer which can be immediately reported to a family doctor or a cancer specialist.
Females over the age of 40 are usually recommended to get the mammography test done once every year. This gives the best chance of catching breast cancer in the very early stages so that it can be cured.
Are all Breast Lumps Cancerous?
Fortunately, 80% of lumps in the breast are non-cancerous. Hence a person should not panic upon finding any lump in the breast. However clinical examination is a must to rule out the possibility of it being breast cancer.
Early detection is key in breast cancer, achievable through regular breast self-examination. Mammography, employed for screening, aids in identifying cancer in its precancerous stages. For women aged 45 and above, an annual mammogram is recommended, as early detection often leads to successful breast cancer treatment. Dr. Nilesh Chordia, a distinguished Breast Cancer Specialist in Mumbai, is dedicated to promoting these vital screening practices.
